Defense Contractors Going To Have A Great Year… Surprised?

Posted by buelahman on February 11, 2008

I wrote about this here a couple of weeks ago, now Amanda has a great post up at Think Progress that goes more into detail. Here is a taste, but read it all there.

Bush’s 2009 Budget Is ‘As Good As It Gets For Defense Contractors’

Last week, President Bush submitted his $515.4 billion defense spending budget for FY ‘09. Contained within that budget is a windfall for defense contractors — “$104.2 billion for weapons procurement and nearly $80 billion for research and development.” This budget is 7.5 percent higher than the current year’s.

Even Defense experts are surprised at how generous the Bush administration is willing to be with the taxpayers’ money, in light of a faltering economy and deep cuts to domestic programs:

“The expectation has been that it can’t continue to increase as it has,” Phil Finnegan, a defense analyst at the Teal Group in Fairfax, said of defense spending. “But it has surprised everyone to see how long this increase has continued. This budget was a great budget for all defense contractors.” […]

The fiscal year 2009 budget may be about as good as it gets for defense contractors,” said Steve Kosiak, vice president of budget studies at the Center for Strategic and Budgetary Assessments. “We have had eight years of quite dramatic growth in [the Defense Department’s] weapons acquisition accounts. Whoever the next president is, it is unlikely that we are going to continue a major buildup.

The administration may get its way on many of these spending requests. The military has dispatched “legions of lobbyists and defense contractors” to Capitol Hill to push for approval. Several lawmakers are actually asking for spending above what the administration requested. Sens. John Cornyn (R-TX) and James Inhofe (R-OK), for example, are lobbying for F-22 fighter planes, even though Defense Secretary Robert Gates has deemed more of these useless planes unnecessary

I can only add that since it is apparent that our armed services are falling apart at the seams… stretched so thin they are ready to crack… and virtually no real care or concern for those who they abused by sending them to a bullshit war to begin with…

HOW CAN IT BE THAT THEY ARE MAKING RECORD PROFITS ON THE BACKS OF OUR BELOVED FRIENDS AND FAMILY WHO SERVE?

Why Is It That When W’s Lips Are Moving…

Posted by buelahman on February 11, 2008

… I smell shit?

WALLACE: All right, you can see that we will — it won’t, but at this point, he would be weighed down by a faltering economy, an unpopular war, at least according to the polls and forgive me running (INAUDIBLE) unpopular president. How does he overcome all of that and…

BUSH: Because there’s two big issues. One is, who’s going to keep your taxes low? Most Americans feel overtaxed and I promise you the Democrat party is going to field a candidate who says I’m going to raise your tax.

If they’re going to say, oh, we’re only going to tax the rich people, but most people in America understand that the rich people hire good accountants and figure out how not to necessarily pay all the taxes and the middle class gets stuck.

We’ve had — we’ve been through this drill before. We’re only going to tax the rich and all you have to do is look at the history of that kind of language and see who gets stuck with the bill.

And the other one, this is a dangerous world and Americans understand it’s dangerous. They understand we’re under threat of attack and whoever our nominee is is going to have to convince them that we will take whatever measures are necessary to protect us.

Let us understand W’s stank-infested logic. He cuts the Rich’s taxes and wants to make them permanent, even tho he knows that the middle  class makes up any difference either way? If the rich has their taxes increased, they pay for accountants to force the burden on the middle class somehow. But when you lower the tax on the rich, the middle class take more of the burden.

Is it me or did he just screw us any way we go?

He is an imbecile.

And rednecks like him and support him, while that evil idiot grins his creepy little grin.

Wake up, people.
