Don Siegelman beaten in Prison

I saw this at C&L (one of the world’s 50 most powerful blogs and probably one of my very favorite), which got it from DailyKos: 

All roads lead to Rove.  That was the message scrawled as an afterthought in the lower left-hand corner of the envelope I received in yesterday’s mail.  It contained a letter from an old and dear friend of mine.  His name is Don Siegelman.  He is the former governor of Alabama and he is being held as a political prisoner of the Bush administration in a Federal prison in Louisiana.

They don’t allow Don the luxury of stationary so he must write his letters on whatever he can find.  He wrote me on a xeroxed article he wanted me to see. [..]

When I first heard of Don being prosecuted for corruption my heart sank.  I didn’t know what to think.  It had been years since we’d spoken and the press made it sound awful for Don (what else?).  Of course I had no idea what was really going on.  Now that I do I am horrified…and furious.

Don is a formidable force in Alabama politics.  His friends are loyal and his supporters enthusiastic.  They re-elected him Governor in the midst of a bogus corruption trial engineered by the Bush Justice Department at the behest of Karl Rove who takes orders from you-know-who.  Don campaigned for re-election throughout the early phases of the trial.  On election night he was declared the winner, but Karl Rove’s minions stole the election overnight by manipulating the ballots in Baldwin County.  It was classic Rovian/Republican election theft.  They did it with computers and electronic voting machines.  Don went to bed the re-elected Governor of Alabama, and woke up an unemployed defendant. Something that has not been reported is that they have been physically beating Don.  I don’t know the extent of his injuries or exactly how many times it has happened – but it has been multiple times.  

There are no words for the fury I feel.  This is an outrage.  And it is the most un-American thing I have ever heard.  I cry bitter tears of frustration and rage.

Please everyone.  We have to help Don, and we have to crush these thugs and put them out of the business of perverting our democracy.  We must investigate and prosecute the responsible parties, not for political reasons, but to actually serve the interest of justice.  The cause of justice calls upon us to hold these criminals accountable.  We must bring them to justice and stop such travesties from ever again happening in our United States of America.

You can contact Rep. John Conyers and Sen. Patrick Leahy, Judiciary committee chairmen, and ask them to appoint an Independent Investigator so the complicit Bush Justice Dept (his personal law firm, as it were) is forced to stay out of it.   To donate, go to Siegelman’s Defense Fund.

I am interested in knee-jerk reactions to this. Maybe, “Damn, B’Man is an atheist… heathen… hell-bound… whatever”?

I was immersed in the religiosity (some call it baptism) for many years. I have actually been an “Assistant Pastor” (altho I hated that name and title and refused to call myself that). I have been a “Praise and Worship Leader” and “Sunday School teacher”. I have studied the Greek and Hebrew (related to Scriptures) and have logged hundreds of hours of study in the Bible & ancient civilizations, especially regarding Biblical identities and places.

I have also experienced things that are seemingly “supernatural”, which I cannot explain to myself, much less explain to another (so I don’t really try). To shoe-horn me into a category, I suppose I would call myself a Deist, even though I have said and done all the things that technically would make me a Christian. Unfortunately, “Christianity” has been hijacked by those that are obviously anti-Christ (at least antithetical to His teachings, yet claim His name as their moniker… thieves and liars, I call them).

But after truly horrible experiences in church, perpetrated by “Christians” by belittling and attempting fear and control mechanisms over everyone, but preaching in the same breath about “freedom in Christ” etc, I came to the conclusion (and have told countless idiotic religious nutcases like my own mother) that “if being a Christian means being like you, I pass”.

What I am saying is that if I must be a judgmental, fear mongering, selfish and hypocritically self-righteous, brain-washed fool who cannot think for himself or be able to question and discuss belief and theology without threats and excommunication from the hypocritical “Men of God”, then I cannot be a “Christian”.

I cannot be what the Christ, Himself, taught against. I cannot be anti-Christ, as are most of Christendom, in my estimation, especially those who claim to be closest to Him and hold some “leadership” position (usually self-made).

It is YOU, false Christians, that are ruining The Message.

It is the rest of us who need to wake up to what they are doing, rednecks.

How many Richard Noggins (Dick Heads) do you know? Have you categorized them into an encylopedia? Well, our friends at Dickipedia have taken care of that for us, when it references politicians and obvious Dickish people in the news. So I have decided that every Saturday I will spotlight major Richard Noggins and share a little bit about them.

John Sidney McCain III (born August 29, 1936) is the senior United States Senator from Arizona, the presumptive Republican Party nominee in the 2008 presidential election, an angry old man, and a dick.

In the Republican Party, there are two kinds of dicks: those that support the Iraq War but were too cowardly to fight in a war when they had the chance, and, much less common, those that support the Iraq War and did fight in other wars when they had the chance. McCain is the latter kind of dick.

During the Vietnam War, McCain became a naval aviator. In a bombing mission over North Vietnam in 1967, he was shot down and badly injured. He endured five and a half years as a prisoner of war, including periods of torture, before he was released following the Paris Peace Accords in 1973. This raises the question: can one be a hero while at the same time being a dick. The answer, as McCain has shown, is: yes.

In 1982, McCain was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives, and in 1986, he was elected to the U.S. Senate. During his years in the Senate, McCain has essentially been an unthinking, run-of-the-mill right-winger. He managed to establish a reputation, however, as a “maverick” who often “defied orthodoxy.” That this is true is testament to the high incidence of dicks in the media, an occupation generally considered to have among the highest of DPRs (dick prevalence rate).

In the late 1980’s, McCain became one of the “Keating Five.” Some have noted that this sounds like a band. And to the extent that taking payoffs from corrupt savings and loans officials, passing legislation that deregulated the industry and destroyed thousands of lives, and intervening in the investigation of said corrupt savings and loan officials is like playing music, then, yes, they were a band. A very good one.

In order to salvage his career, McCain recreated himself as a campaign-finance reformer. Because of a defect in the media, McCain succeeded. In 2002, the largely useless McCain-Feingold Act was passed.

McCain ran for the Republican nomination in the 2000 presidential election, but was defeated by another dick, George W. Bush. In the 2008 presidential cycle, McCain was joined in the race by a lazy dick, a Mormon dick, a evangelical dick, a libertarian former gynecologist dick and a dick named Giuliani. After the Mormon dick dropped out in February of 2008, McCain became the presumptive nominee…

An “asshole” senator

Far from actually being a “maverick,” the one word that would accurately describe his time in public life is: “asshole.” That McCain was able to successfully make himself be thought of as a “maverick” says as much about the press as it does about McCain. That is, one cannot understand how McCain did this without also understanding the delicate psychology of the Washington D. C. press corps.

Most Washington journalists have a deeply internalized sense of self-loathing. They see themselves as cowardly, flaccid, ineffectual, impotent wimps. In this, they’re not entirely wrong. They have always secretly admired the asshole jocks who used to push them around in high school. The journalists would console themselves with the soothing affirmation that the assholes were not as smart as they were. They were right, of course, but still, deep down the journalists secretly admired the assholes.

Along comes John McCain — an asshole, but an asshole who is nice to them, an asshole who comes to back of the plane and jokes around with them and doesn’t make them feel unmanly. Why, sometimes, it seemed as if McCain really liked them. A few years of this, and suddenly McCain’s not a temperamental, dangerously unstable asshole, he’s a “maverick.”

But the self-esteem issues of the weakling press notwithstanding, McCain is, in fact, an asshole. An asshole who wants to be the President of the United States. As an asshole senator, he the sort of guy who says things like:

• “Only an asshole would put a budget together like this!” (to New Mexico Republican Pete Dominici)

• “I’m calling you a fucking jerk!” (to Iowa Republican Senator Chuck Grassley)

• “Fuck you. I know more about this than anybody in the room.” (To Texas Republican Senator John Cornyn)

This is why Senator Dominici said in 2000 that “I decided I didn’t want this guy anywhere near a trigger.” It is presumed by this he meant the nuclear trigger.

McCain is also the sort of guy who would tell the following joke:

Q: Why is Chelsea Clinton so ugly?

A: Her father is Janet Reno.

This is the sort of humor assholes find funny. When he told the joke, Chelsea Clinton was seventeen years old. Some say when you open an attack like this on the looks of someone who did not ask to be thrust into the public eye, you invite similar attacks in your own direction…

In speaking about whether he had ever witnessed McCain’s notorious temper problem, former Pennsylvania Republican Senator Rick Santorum said, “I don’t know anybody in the Senate who hasn’t. Everybody has their McCain story.”

And if America elects this temperamental, dangerously unstable, angry old asshole, America will have its own McCain story too.

Yes, it is safe and prudent to understand that Sen McCain is a dickhead. It appears that America likes dickhead leaders, so we get what we want. But, personally, I am sick and tired of dick heads ruining our lives. What about the rest of you rednecks? Had enough dick headedness from our “leaders” yet?
