What does a Trillion look like???

Posted by lrose48 on May 6, 2008

LET’S PUT THE AMOUNT OF THE US NATIONAL DEBT INTO PERSPECTIVE

$ 7,937,463,000,000.00

Seven trillion, nine hundred and thirty seven billion, four hundred and sixty three million dollars and counting

If you had gone into business on the day Jesus was born, and your business lost a million dollars a day, day in and day out, 365 days a year, it would have taken you until October 2737 to lose just ONE trillion dollars.

The U.S. Congress has done seven times this damage to their constituents in a little over eighteen years!

—-STATISTICS—-

In 2001 alone, it took more than all of the income taxes collected just to pay the ‘debt service’ (interest) on the national debt, and it is estimated that, at the present rate of national debt increase, it will have grown to 18.28 trillion dollars by the year 2006.

With a 242% increase in the debt and no more income taxes left to pay the debt service, how do you suppose our children and grandchildren are going repay this enormous debt that every American today is leaving them?

If you ventured a guess that they’d be taxed at about 73%, you would be pretty close.

Think about it!

Now– as the debt clock ticks away on the new TRILLIONS for the Bush War… add it to the ticking National Debt! Think we are in trouble??

NO amount of blood [our children’s in war] will pay for this or justify this!!

    It’s just a g-d number…

    They could halve the money going to the Military Industrial Complex and STILL have more than any other nation in the world as far as weapons goes.

    All the Big Three are content with the status quo (by and large). None of them are talking the major boot-strap changes that are required.

    No one is willing to take the big steps required, because those very steps will make them unelectable.

    Americans are dumbasses, apparently.

    Your numbers don’t make sense to me: You statistic of estimated debt by 2006 is $18.28 trillion yet you open by showing the current national debt of just under 8 trillion dollars for 2008. For the fiscal year 2006 the US government collected 2.2 trillion in taxes. I agree that we need to pay down our debts by cutting government spending. I don’t think Americans are “dumbasses” but rather that our government officials do not have a concept of what a million, billion or trillion dollars looks like. They throw a billion dollars at a project like their paying for a cup of coffee…that’s the problem.
