Singapore man jailed for armpit sniffing

A Singapore man with a weakness for sniffing women’s armpits was sentenced to 14 years in jail and 18 strokes of the cane for molesting his victims, a local newspaper reported Friday.
He molested 23 women over the course of 15 months, smelling their armpits and touching them in lifts, staircase landings and their homes, the paper said. He was caught after a housewife reported him to the police.
The 36-year-old, who the Straits Times said was mentally unstable, had previous convictions for drug and sex-related offences.
The court meted out the jail term, normally reserved for hardcore criminals, saying the man was likely to commit crimes again, the paper reported.
Caning on the buttocks is an additional punishment for male criminals in Singapore for offences ranging from vandalism to illegal possession of drugs and rape.
I wonder if Herr Bush has considered this, yet?

It is unfortunate they only cane men. If the genders are equal shouldn’t they cane women as well?
Like most people I would never intentionally harm anyone but if I did commit a crime in a country like Singapore I don’t think it would be moral to exempt me from punishment just because of my gender.
I have heard about Singapore canings and their brutality. Considering what I just said in the last paragraph, the thought of getting whipped so hard that it tears the flesh from my rear and leaves scars makes my stomach knot up, but the fact is gender inequality is injustice.
It is a brutal way to punish someone and I’m sure it hurts like hell but it is foolish to think that it hurts a man any less than it would hurt a woman. So why don’t we show some compassion to our male counterparts and enforce laws equally.
Furthermore as a woman I am rather insulted that people would consider me too weak to be punished equally. I mean I’m glad I’m not going to get the cane if I get into trouble on a trip to Singapore but the fact is women aren’t weak. We are as strong as men and probably stonger (though no man on arth would ever admit to that). It is insulting they would incorporate a bias in their criminal code on the basis of female “weakness”.
