Alabama Governor Appoints Board For New Robotics Research, Development Complex.

I learned long ago to trust my instincts. From the mid-70’s to very early 80’s I kicked myself in the ass for not jumping on (and staying on) the PC wild ride that Gates and others were introducing. I was programming in Fortran and other early languages in 79.
But, in the early 80’s I started my career in electronics and robotics. I saw the road coming in automation and never looked back. Even with the horrible financial news we are bombarded with daily, there are a few hot spots in the country (and luckily I am involved with this project already).
The point is that for Americans to compete in manufacturing, the old days of hand assembling stuff is going away and if one wants to make stuff here, they will be forced into a higher technological paradigm. The following news is not “new” to me, but it may be to many of you that read here.
I suggest doing what I did and focus on improving your technological education and understanding. Then strive to be a leader in this technology (as I have become).
WVTM-TV (11/14) Birmingham, AL reports, “Governor Bob Riley (R) appointed seven industry representatives to the board that will help direct Alabama’s new robotics research and development complex that is being built at Calhoun Community College. … The robotics complex, created by Governor Riley, will consist of three separate facilities, each targeted to meet a specific industry need, and will provide training for 450 or more people each year in robotics.” The article lists the new appointees, and notes, “The first 50,000-square-foot facility will provide training for technicians to work on robotic machinery and will be home to several major robotics and automation brands,” while “the second site will be used by NASA and the US Army Missile Command for research, development and testing of robotics used for military projects and space exploration.” A “third complex will allow companies to build and adapt robots for new industries.”

…then, my universities robotics platform would certainly be of interest to you, because robotics projects and development are moving faster than the speed of light.

Dr Quartey,
Since penning this post, I would have to say that my entire career has fallen apart. You claim that robotics projects and development are moving faster than the speed of light. If so, explain how it is that all the robotics companies are struggling as we speak? There is but one real robotics company in the USA and they have had lay-offs and have horrible outlooks in business in the near term.
I can say with full authority that projects are way DOWN. Sales are way DOWN. With the exception of a few pent-up demands and intent of saving some production here, instead of sending it to another country, then linked with automotive re-tooling, there isn’t a lot of robotics being purchased (at least in my neck of the woods).
So, where are you from and which country are you discussing? For I cannot resolve what you wrote with the reality I face on the ground.
If you have a need for robotics automation in the SE, I am your man.
