Iran and America

Posted by BuelahMan on May 1, 2010

No One Knows About Persian Cats was filmed secretly, in just 17 days, in and around Tehran—where rocking out without government permission can earn you three months in prison.

“After the 1979 revolution, almost all public places were closed down, so you had a lot of these kids who are unemployed, sitting at home, and they start spending all their time on the internet with these very slow connections visiting unfiltered websites,” [director Bahman] Ghobad told Wired.com in a phone interview. “In order to not fall behind the rest of the world, they tried to familiarize themselves with the music of the West, and accomplished a lot in this way.”

Next, I wanted to point out a listing of differences between Iran and America. Found at Goon Squad (Where Brains are Tenderly Washed, Disinfected and Made Usable Again), but also seems like kind of a anti-Semite site, correct me if I am wrong.

Comparing Iran and the USA

Iran has:

A repressive regime that constantly spies on its citizenry in order to maintain control, even going so far as to round up dissenters and toss them in jail.

They have a bunch of religious radicals that exercise an undue amount of influence on the government.

They use their media to scare Iranians into thinking the ‘Great Satan,’ the USA, will attack at any moment, so the ruling elite can stay in charge.

Although they have elections, there’s not much choice between the candidates who seem like replicas of one another and retreads from past administrations.

Iran’s military spending is $102 per capita, the lowest figure of the Persian Gulf nations.

They have a NO ICBM’s, NO nuclear weapons, a handful of old, diesel-electric subs and haven’t invaded a country in over 200 years.

Now look at the USA:

A repressive regime that constantly spies on its citizenry in order to maintain control, even going so far as to round up dissenters and toss them in jail.

They have a bunch of religious radicals that exercise an undue amount of influence on the government.

They use their media to scare Americans into thinking that al Qaeda will attack at any moment, so the ruling elite can stay in charge.

Although they have elections, there’s not much choice between the candidates who seem like replicas of one another and retreads from past administrations.

The U.S. is the world leader in spending on weaponry, spending more on death than 14 of the world’s biggest militaries combined.

Our per capita military spending of $1,967 was about nine times the world average.

The USA has thousands of ICBM’s, many of which are MIRV’s–Multiple Independently Targetable Reentry Vehicles–that carry up to 200 nukes a piece. We have around 7,000 nukes, stationed on our military bases around the world and many are on aircraft carriers, ready to be fitted onto Tomahawk cruise missiles or be deployed on F-18′s.
Our fleet of subs are advanced, state of the art units that prowl the world’s oceans, equipped with both nuclear tipped ICBM’s and Tomahawk cruise missiles.

We are the ONLY nation to have used nuclear weapons against another country, and that was against TWO civilian targets.

And over the 150+ years, we have invaded countless nations, or sent in OSS/CIA thugs and mercs to either overthrow the democratically elected government, like we did in Iran in 1953 or gave the ruling thuggish dictator money and weapons so he could subdue the people and allow Wall Street to ransack the nation of its wealth.

And the USA is the world’s biggest jailer, having more of our people per capita in jail than any other nation.

So which regime is really the danger to world peace and needs to be overthrown?

UPDATE: Several commenters and emailers have taken exception to my claim that Greg Bacon is anti-Semite. I have gone back and read a great bit more and want to acknowledge that my claim was incorrect. I appreciate the feedback and hopefully have made reparations with Greg.
