When Georgia Redneck THUGS speak

Posted by buelahman on June 23, 2008

They sound like this stupid asshole…

He said that like he is proud of his record. Georgia rednecks, wake up and get rid of this trash.

If anyone has supported Bush and the neocon agenda, then their judgment is lacking and they should never represent you good people. You can do better.

As an example of better, check out Regina Thomas.

How Free is Free Trade? Roger Wicker Knows

Posted by buelahman on June 7, 2008

B’Man: h/t Jeff at Cotton Mouth

Southern politics was hijacked by neocon asswipes a while back. The Mississippi governor was elected, even though he was a lobbyist for many years and became the Chair of the ReTHUGlican National Committee. You can put a lot of blame on these individual democrats who endorsed this maniac over Musgrove: Xavier Bishop, Mike Espy, Brad Dye, and Bill Waller.

Also, Trent Lott was a mainstay in Mississippi politics, but he took the opposite approach the idiot governor took and is now a lobbyist. I believe the move will cost the THUGS in the general elections in November. Hence how important Cotton Mouth’s post and facts are.

With that asshole gone, we need to continually highlight the abuses and idiotic party voting for things that are ravaging our America. One of those “things” is “Free Trade” and Cotton Mouth ensures we understand precisely where Roger Wicker stands on this “free” trade, especially in light of the fact that he hails from Tupelo, MS, where furniture makers are shutting their doors to Asian competition.

Roger Wicker and Free Trade

A quick look at Roger Wicker’s voting record shows that he is a strong advocate of free trade. While the pros and cons of this can be debated for days, lets look past that argument to Wicker’s vote against assistance for those who lost their jobs due to free trade. The irony runs deep since Roger is from Tupelo, once the state’s industrial shining star for it’s furniture industry, now feeling the effects of shuttered factories that have left for the low wage, low regulation shores of the globalized frontier.

From On The Issues:

Wicker’s votes for free trade,

Voted YES on promoting free trade with Peru. (Nov 2007)
Voted YES on implementing CAFTA, Central America Free Trade. (Jul 2005)
Voted YES on implementing US-Australia Free Trade Agreement. (Jul 2004)
Voted YES on implementing US-Singapore free trade agreement. (Jul 2003)
Voted YES on implementing free trade agreement with Chile. (Jul 2003)

So Wicker is a big time advocate of free trade, but what about those left behind? What about the family of four from Nettleton, MS whose principle bread winners have lost their jobs to Chile or Mexico?

Voted NO on assisting workers who lose jobs due to globalization. (Oct 2007)

Once again Rubber Stamp Roger is exposed. He would rather vote with Wall Street than Main Street. Don’t take my word for it, take a look at his voting record and decide for yourself.

Wrong- As Usual

Posted by buelahman on June 6, 2008

B’Man: Blue Texan at firedoglake had this nice little snippet post up showing just a few examples of how wrong the reTHUGlicans have been regarding the next election (and their perceivedpreferred choice for Democratic Presidential Nominee, Hillary Clinton):

Dick Armey:

“I don’t see any way that Hillary Clinton won’t be president.”

Tom DeLay:

“Hillary will be the next president of the United States because they have built a coalition,” he said.

Dick Morris:

“Hillary Clinton will undoubtedly lose the South Carolina primary as African-Americans line up to vote for Barack Obama. And that defeat will power her drive to the nomination.”

Karl Rove:

COLMES: At this point Karl — this is risky territory, but could you predict who the nominee will be for the Democrats based on what you know?

ROVE: I think it’s going to be Senator Clinton because I think Senator Obama’s best shots are largely behind him.

Newt Gingrich:

“I think the odds are 80 per cent that Sen. Clinton is the next president; I think she is almost certainly going to win the Democratic nomination.”

El Rushbo:

“Remember this: the Democrat machine candidate always wins; the upstart insurgents never do. It’s all you need to know. Forget all the polls.”

George W. Bush:

President Bush, breaking his rule not to talk about presidential politics, says he believes Hillary Rodham Clinton will defeat Barack Obama in Democratic presidential primary voting.

“She’s got a great national presence and this is becoming a national primary,” Mr. Bush told Sammon.

I predict that Republicans will continue to be wrong about everything.

B’Man: On any number of subjects, one could do exactly the same thing and show how wrong they are. I can’t think of a subject they have been “right” on, as a matter of fact (feel free to list those, if you have them). I know many people who are this way… can be quoted later and shown to be 100% wrong in virtually everything they are involved in.

One such person is my own mother. When it comes to most any subject, but especially religion and what God tells her, she has been 100% incorrect. She had the audacity to give me marital advice, while she was in her 7th marriage (only one had died). It doesn’t take a genius to pick these folks out and as a general rule (I explain this to all my siblings who cannot seem to grasp this very simple concept), if she says anything or gives advice, no matter how sane it may seem, do 100% opposite and you will be safe.

The same holds true for Bush, his administration or any reTHUGlican who kisses the neocon ass (not to mention the Blue Dog capitulating Dems who continue to support the failings of this administration). If they say something, make a claim or suggest something the country needs to do to be “bettered”, then we should instinctively do exactly the opposite and we will be safe.

Crooks and Liars: Watching the Blue Dog Bushie Tools

Posted by buelahman on May 24, 2008

From Howie Klein at Crooks and Liars. Remember these Bushie Fools Come next election, rednecks:

more about “Crooks and Liars “, posted with vodpod

Today’s Blue America candidate is Georgia state Senator Regina Thomas. She’s taking on one of the very worst and most reactionary of all the congressional Blue Dogs, John Barrow, in a district that encompasses much of Savannah and Augusta. Barrow votes more frequently for the Bush agenda and with the GOP than any other Democrats, although he’s sometimes tied with Nick Lampson and Jim Marshall. Regina will be blogging live at Firedoglake today at 2pm (Georgia Peach Time). Blue America worked with singer-songwriter Jason Joseph to put together a little music clip for Regina. If you’d like to help us get this spread around, please consider donating to Regina’s campaign at our Blue America ActBlue page today.

Richard Noggin’ Saturday: The Lion of the Left

Liberal Talk Show Host Bernie Ward Admits to Distribution of Child Pornography

Bernie Ward, San Francisco’s leading liberal radio host, has admitted to distribution of child pornography by e-mail. He will now face at least five years in prison and as much as ten years.

Ward, 57, is a former Roman Catholic priest who became known as the “Lion of the Left.”

In a hearing before Chief U.S. District Judge Vaughn Walker, Ward (who had previously denied the allegations) pleaded to a single charge of distribution, involving “exchanging an image of a minor engaged in sexually explicit activity” in December 2004. However, the plea agreement references between 15 and 150 pornographic images via e-mail.

His attorneys are now seeking a five year term. Only nine months would be taken off for good time. The government wants nine months. But both are better than the 20 years that he was looking at. Transcripts of Ward’s calls between December 2004 and January 2005 reveal fantasies related to children. For those transcripts, click here. They notably lack any connection to research that he originally claimed in defense.

For the full story, click here.

Of course there are freaks on the left. But, if one were to list (side by side) all the Dems and THUGS, the THUG list would be much longer and far more hypocritical.

B’Man’s Patriot Watch: Rep. Peter DeFazio (D-OR04)

Posted by buelahman on April 24, 2008

Every now and again, I am surprised…

I believe it’s April Fool’s Day here on the floor of the House.  To hear the members of the GOP – the Grand Old Oil Party – talking about how they’re there for the consumers, they want to do something to help American consumers. The same party that benefits disproportionately from massive campaign contributions from the oil and gas and coal industries.  The same party that holds the White House, with two oil men in the White House.  The same party, on the Senate side, defeated our energy provisions because they would have God forbid, made the oil and gas companies pay taxes like other members of the corporate committee.  It would have taken away subsidies.  They’re crying crocodile tears about the massive profits that their buddies are making, their campaign contributors, their sponsors.  And the president, the oil man.  And the vice president, the oil man supply services company.

Q:  Will the gentleman yield?

No, I won’t yield.  Thank you very much.

Now, there’s a few things we could do.  Now, the president’s a big free trader, right?  He’s trying to push us into more free trade agreements.  They say they work great.  He wants “rules-based trade.”   Well, we’re in the WTO, they have rules. The rules say you can not restrict the supply of a commodity simply to drive up the price.  That’s what OPEC’s doing.  Now five members of OPEC are in the WTO.  Will this president – the oil man –- the friend of the Saudis and the others – will he file a complaint in the World Trade Organization against OPEC?  No.  I wrote to him three years ago, asking him to do that.  The answer was no.  If the Saudis and the OPEC countries want to get together and collude to drive up the price of the oil, that’s just fine with George Bush.  He’s all for free trade, and rules-based trade, except when the rules might hurt some of his buddies.  And then, the oil industry just piggy backs on top of that.

Now, there is another thing they could do. They can help us with a provision we put in the Farm bill, which is stalled in the Senate, which would close the Enron loophole. Remember Enron? Ken Boy, the President’s favorite guy? He just died before he went to jail. Well, the Enron boys convinced the Republican Congress to give them a special loophole, to deregulate energy commodities, to allow for massive speculation. And there is widespread agreement in the financial community that about 50 cents of the price that’s being paid at the pump today is being paid purely because of speculation brought about by the Enron loophole. You really want to do something about the high price of oil?  Help us close the Enron loophole. Get your president to file a complaint against OPEC for colluding to drive up the price of oil. Help strip out the taxpayers’ subsidies to the oil, coal and gas industry. You are taking out of their wallets while you are taking it out of their pockets at the pump.

Hillary Clinton and Political Expediency (Flip-Flopping to the Whitehouse)

Posted by buelahman on April 8, 2008

Hillary has found herself caught up in lies and stretches of the truth, trying to gather more support for her failing campaign. Signs of desperation? It seems that with every day there is another dumb-ass move.

I almost expect this from presidential candidates, for they all will seemingly do or say anything to obtain the position (with the exception of a few talented and honorable 3rd party candidates).

Jonathon Turley notes that Senator Clinton is now pushing the meme that she is all about the electoral college and that delegates can vote any way they so desire, especially the Super Delegates. The electoral college and the Super Delegates scheme basically work very similarly:

Hillary Clinton’s superdelegate strategy has highlighted the flaws in our electoral college system — and the need to finally embrace democracy in its truest form in the selection of the President of the United States. The column below explores the controversy.

Granted, Professor Turley’s article isn’t a bash against Clinton (at least, fully frontal), but is more an evaluation of the electoral college system, which he deems (and I agree) a “Constitutional Relic”.

HEADLINE: Unequal votes;
The Electoral College is a relic of elitist Framers who didn’t fully trust ‘the people.’ Yet the Democratic Party’s superdelegate system relies on the same disturbing principle.

It appears that the Electoral College has finally found a passionate advocate. Indeed, the past few weeks, Hillary Clinton has been talking so much about the Electoral College, one would think she was an alumna.

In her campaign for superdelegates, Clinton has been insisting that it is irrelevant whether Barack Obama receives the majority of votes or even the majority of states. It is all about the Electoral College; therefore, voters in red states who chose Obama do not really count because, as Democrats, they will not have any say in the general election.

Clinton is, of course, correct.

And she is correct. Not correct that this SHOULD be the way, but that this IS the way it is (and I agree that it should be changed). It was derived because the elitist founders didn’t trust the citizenry with electing the upper house (originally, they were elected by the House of Representatives).

The Electoral College and the superdelegate system work on the same premise: Citizens sometimes cannot be entirely trusted to choose the next president. Clinton last week even dismissed the notion of “pledged” (or non-super) delegates as a “misnomer,” suggesting that they are free to disregard the will of voters in choosing a nominee.

The senator of New York has stressed that such delegates would not be swayed by the “passion” and oratory of Obama. Since many of Obama’s states are locks for the Republicans in the Electoral College come November, her campaign has called on the party leadership to recognize that she is more electable in a system that does not recognize the national majorities.

Clinton would have found great allies in the Framers. Massachusetts delegate Elbridge Gerry warned that “the people are uninformed and would be misled by a few designing men.” Even George Mason, the great advocate of the Bill of Rights, dismissed direct election due to the inability of ordinary citizens to actually see and hear candidates, given the country’s size: “It would be as unnatural to refer the choice of a proper magistrate to the people as it would to refer a trial of colors to a blind man.”

Now, they may have had a point for the time and the lack of communication in comparison to today. But, today, even Mrs Clinton can’t take a dump without the world knowing it. She certainly can’t make up a “sniper story” without the world having access to the truth on tape (something the founding fathers probably couldn’t even imagine, much less use to form a election/voting system).

So, was there a time that they may have been correct in their assessment? Entirely possible… or they may have just been elitist assholes in need of power. Kind of moot, now.

What is not moot, is how Sen Clinton can flip-flop about her feelings regarding this issue only when it seems to affect her negatively.

Despite our immense respect for the Framers, they were not perfect. Even so, they did possess the humility to acknowledge that time could prove them wrong and created a process by which we could amend the Constitution. We have proved them wrong about the ability of ordinary citizens to make decisions directly about their government; we have proved better than their expectations.

One politician understood that in 2000, stating, “We are a very different country than we were 200 years ago. … We should respect the will of the people and to me, that means it’s time to do away with the Electoral College and move to the popular election of our president.”

It was Hillary Clinton.

Obama Wins in Mississippi… Race Does Matter

Posted by buelahman on March 12, 2008

At least it matters in Mississippi. 90% of black people voted for Obama, while only 25% of white people voted for him. I am a bit gunshy to check to see what my old home county voted, but because that county has at least an 85% white population (my estimate referring to the extreme north Mississippi) I would bet that it voted overwhelmingly for Clinton.

Since we moved to Tennessee, I can say that many white people here say things like, “I can’t vote for a black man.” (or worse) Or are a bit more dishonest and find reasons to not vote for a black guy, all-the-while dogging Hillary and McCain.

Personally, at this point, Obama is probably the least tainted running, for the fact that he has been in less time than the others and therefore less likely to be corrupt. But, except for a very few instances (such as Dennis Kucinich and a few others) there are NONE that don’t become tainted at some point. It appears to be the very nature of the business.

So, even tho I agree that Obama is now the lesser of the three evils, I have little hope for him to stay that way for very long. Perhaps he will prove me wrong and I will be the first to apologize (to his face, if he would take the time).

Obama wins Mississippi primary

Barack Obama, the US Democratic presidential candidate, has won the Mississippi primary election by a comfortable margin, according to US media reports.

It was the second win in a row for Obama, regaining the momentum after his rival Hillary Clinton pulled off big victories in the key states of Texas and Ohio last week.

Thirty three Democratic delegates were at stake last contest in the prolonged Democratic race before Pennsylvania on April 22.

Exit polls showed one of the largest racial divides in a primary yet, with about 90 per cent of black voters favouring the Illinois senator but only about a quarter of white voters choosing him.

That extended a pattern of black support that carried him to victory in earlier southern primary elections in South Carolina, Alabama, Georgia and Louisiana…

Harold Ford, Jr.: Tennessee’s “Democrat”

Posted by buelahman on February 24, 2008

Why is it that southern people have the knack of electing people who would do and vote against anything that may help their constituency? Why do we desire to “claim” these Bush Lites, as our own, when they represent NOTHING of our interests… but always theirs. How can these people be so out of touch and us STILL be enamored by them?

From Daily KOS:

Let’s face it. The Democratic Leadership Council has never gotten a lot of love around here.

No surprise there. When your philosophy of governance sucks that much ass, and you lose every election you contest on its tenets, you’re just not going to get love from a community that’s come together to find ways for Democrats to win. It’s just not gonna happen.

But through it all, the DLC always at least pretended that the “D” meant something.

Then, they put Harold Ford at the helm, and it all fell apart. Via My Left Nutmeg, we bring you Ford’s suicide note:

When   Harold Ford, Jr.   walked onto the Quick Center stage for his OPEN Visions forum he knew whose district he was standing in.

“There is not a better Congressman in Washington than Chris Shays,” said Ford, to a crowd of about 600 Fairfield University students and community members.

Yes, that’s right. Harold Ford thinks the guy who thinks Blackwater is “perfect” is the best Congressman in Washington.

Of course, Ford’s perspective isn’t exactly first hand, is it? After all, Ford isn’t actually in Washington, is he? That’s one of the little known side effects that comes from losing your election.

Shays, who was also in attendence [sic], responded, “The reason Harold Ford likes me so much is because when I realized that I wasn’t going to be president, I went up to him and told him that he was one of the three legislator’s that I thought would someday.”

Oh, I think I’m going to be sick.

Me, too. Who else considers Chris Shays the best Senator around? Just a show of hands will do.

Kucinich is a “black” congressional candidate

Posted by buelahman on February 14, 2008

Great line from Margaret Kimberley’s latest excellent article at Black Agenda Report:

Freedom Rider: Democrats Target Kucinich for Defeat

by BAR editor and senior columnist Margaret Kimberley

“Somewhere, somehow people have to win a victory over corporate control and corporate greed.” - Congressman Dennis Kucinich

In his presidential campaigns in 2004 and 2008, Ohio Congressman Dennis Kucinich told Democrats a brutal truth. Party orthodoxy is a disaster, a series of lies that must no longer be accepted. While his opponents, Obama, Clinton and Edwards, made it clear they weren’t serious about ending the occupation of Iraq, Kucinich presented a plan to do just that. When they made the case for leaving a failed for-profit health care system intact, Kucinich said that non-profit universal care was possible. He co-sponsored legislation calling for impeachment hearings against Vice President Cheney and President Bush while leadership declared the criminals should go free.

While Barack Obama garners 80% to 90% of black votes in the primaries, it is the Kucinich platform that actually expresses the political opinions of most black Americans. Disavowal of American military aggression and support for government enforcement of legal and civil rights of citizens are the hallmarks of Kucinich’s history. Obama makes eloquent but empty speeches bereft of specifics. In contrast, Kucinich’s national political life appeared to be over shortly after it began because he took a courageous stand against corporate power.

“It is the Kucinich platform that actually expresses the political opinions of most black Americans.”

Elected mayor of Cleveland in 1977, Dennis Kucinich refused to allow a privately owned electrical utility to purchase that city’s publicly owned utility. In an effort to force the sale and thereby create a monopoly, banks refused to extend the city any credit and plunged it into default. Kucinich paid the price for his principles when he was defeated in his re-election effort. Years later Kucinich was vindicated, having stopped what would have been an enormous corporate theft of public money and services.

Kucinich returned first to the Cleveland City Council, then the Ohio state legislature, and in 1996 he was elected to Congress. Despite his vast experience, he was forced to drop out of this year’s presidential race. The lack of media and debate access were not his only problems. He faces a fierce challenge that once again puts his political survival in jeopardy.

In December 2007, Cleveland City Councilman Joe Cimperman declared himself a challenger for Kucinich’s congressional seat. Within fifteen days, Cimperman raised more than $39,000 from fifteen contributors, none of whom reside in the 10th District that is being contested. Cimperman is no different from these contributors. He doesn’t live in the district either but that doesn’t matter to the lawyers, bankers and real estate developers who are giving him money. They expect access and influence. Cimperman’s address, like the interests of residents, is of no importance to them.

Cimperman supporters are not alone in wanting Kucinich out of office. Cleveland’s daily newspaper, the Plain Dealer, endorsed Cimperman, and didn’t mince words about wanting Kucinich gone.

Kucinich repeatedly has defied House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.”

“Congress runs on relationships and loyalties. Yet Kucinich repeatedly has defied House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and her leadership team [emphasis mine] by not supporting their attempts to impose a deadline on U.S. involvement in Iraq - even when those attempts were part of realistic bipartisan proposals to recalibrate a policy he detests.”

Support for Nancy Pelosi and the awful Democratic Congressional leadership should not be held up as the standard for political success. After declaring that Kucinich’s principles aren’t worth supporting, the Plain Dealer heaps further insult by comparing Kucinich to Democrats who win approval by failing the people. Barney Frank is used as an example. “. . . he knows when and how to cut a deal. He delivers [emphasis mine] for his party, his constituents and his beliefs.”

Citizens never benefit from what Barney Frank or Nancy Pelosi would call victory. There is no bipartisan recalibration with the Bush regime. Bush still gets what he wants from Democrats. They fund the Iraq occupation, support trade deals that endanger American workers, refuse to rebuild the Gulf Coast, and say nothing when administration officials ignore their subpoenas. Because acquiescence is equated with political rectitude, Kucinich flunks the test.

“Kucinich was the only progressive in the presidential campaign.”

So great is the pressure to get rid of Kucinich, that Cleveland’s Mayor, Frank Jackson, also endorsed Cimperman. Elected officials usually endorse incumbents, or refrain from making endorsements altogether. The pressure to get rid of Kucinich is overwhelming.

The Democratic leadership has a history of punishing their own who dare to oppose Republicans. Cynthia McKinney was twice sent packing from Congress because she wouldn’t toe the line. Now it may be Kucinich’s turn.

Kucinich is a “black” congressional candidate. He was the only progressive in the presidential campaign. His re-election should be the first priority for activists in this presidential campaign year. Imagine a Congress with no voice for impeachment. Imagine Congress with no questions about Iraqi civilian casualties. Imagine a Congress without Kucinich when Bush decides on his pretext for war against Iran. Imagine the worst, because that is what we will have if Kucinich is defeated.

Margaret Kimberley’s Freedom Rider column appears weekly in BAR. Ms. Kimberley lives in New York City, and can be reached via e-Mail at Margaret.Kimberley(at)BlackAgandaReport.Com. Ms. Kimberley maintains an edifying and frequently updated blog at freedomrider.blogspot.com.  More of her work is also available at her Black Agenda Report archive page.

Obama: The Same Old, Same Old?

Posted by buelahman on February 6, 2008

My buddy Manila Ryce’s blog at The Largest Minority had a post by peacelf that mimcs how I feel about Mr Obama and his message of “change”.

What is different about him? Other than the flashy wording that Americans are want to hear. Is it really truth? Does he mean it?

America may be better off with Obama than any of the rest now participating, but not by much. And I agree with peacelf that America is likely in for a huge let down.

Kennedy Endorsement of Barack Obama Overrated

By peacelf
Published Tuesday, February 5th, 2008, 8:21 pm

Right now I’m going to challenge one of the sacred relics of the sixties. Here goes. I am not impressed with Maria Shriver, Caroline Kennedy, or Ted Kennedy’s support of Barack Obama. JFK is no hero.

The tragic death of JFK, notwithstanding, does not make a great president. JFK’s “greatness” is based on ‘could haves’ and ‘would haves,’ not on any real changes he proposed or made. Yes, he utilized lofty language in his speeches, but when it came right down to it, he balked at implementing the changes of the civil rights movement, he introduced [a]merica to a tiny nation in Southeast Asia called Vietnam and, oh yeah, saved us from the evil Soviet empire. Other than getting killed in front of a camera in a somewhat suspicious manner, JFK was still a sayer and not a doer. I can level that same charge against Barack Obama.

Obama’s lofty language of “change” and “working together” coupled with his popularity only suggests to me that the American people want to be hopeful, want to be inspired, want a leader who will listen to The People; but again, I’m afraid they will be sadly disappointed when that change does not occur. And, it will compound American anger, cynicism, and ultimately, their feelings of powerlessness about politicians making any significant changes.

Moreover, it won’t be because Obama lied to us. No, it’s clearly stated on his web site that he is part of the status quo in politics, that his ideas for change are no different than Hillary’s, McCain’s, and Romney’s. In other words, if people would look at Obama’s campaign issues with even a modicum of critical thinking, they would understand my point here: Obama is still part of the problem, not the solution for genuine progressive change.

Yet, this is the state of America-in-denial. We love the luxury of living in an empire, but feel guilty enough to select leaders who use moral and lofty language as a political expediency, as a way to assuage that guilt we all feel for shopping at Wal-Mart and living in relative luxury thanks to poor people around the world who work for us in sweat shops, rather than making the difficult choices to support candidates who will challenge who we are fundamentally as a nation and a people.

Yet, I have hope that someday love, compassion, and justice will prevail, not just in american politics, but in the will of the people. However, first, it must begin with so-called progressives and liberals who continually support the status quo encapsulated in candidates like Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama.

Super delegates: who are they? | Video | Reuters.com

Posted by buelahman on February 5, 2008

Super delegates? WTF?

Leave it to the parties to leave open a way to ensure that the candidate they want running is the nominated candidate.

20% of all delegates are these “super” type… ex-presidents, elite congressmen, etc.

They are unpledged, but at 20%, they can make or break an election.

Even if Dennis had not been locked out by the media and complicit Democratic party, Howard Dean could have pressured these super-delegates to vote another way.

The entire system is a farce, people.

Video won’t play, so please click link.from www.reuters.com posted with vodpod
