I first featured that video for Lynda in 2009. In a follow-up post I linked to an essay that asked where the hell did they go? If we only had that kind of student uprising (for those very same hippies are now part of the status quo) we might take back control of this country (but I am not holding my breath).
I want to be optimistic enough to think that at some point, Americans will get pissed enough to do something like the Hippies of old did. Unfortunately, those very same Hippies, by and large, are now a part of the problem since they forgot what they fought for back in the day and now have taken up and replaced “The Man” that they once hated and rallied against. The Hippies ARE now “The Man”.
But is it too late? Do we still stand a chance of taking back this country from the Oligarchs?
I have my doubts, but Andrew has a point when he says in his post, “Save The Rich, Pay Your Taxes“:
It’s a pretty twisted state of affairs, but the masses still lie in a half-awake, half-asleep dreamlike state, convinced that the MSM practices genuine journalism, that there actually is a meaningful separation between the Republicans and Democrats, and that at least one of those parties actually represents the interests of ordinary Americans. And perhaps the worst part of it all is that, by some unfathomable mutation of logic and understanding, the most ignorant and politically uninformed Americans tend to be the most vocal, the most opinionated, the most unwilling to bend. How can ever hope to make any progress when we’re surrounded by people who actually believe corporations help America, that taxing the rich is a bad thing, that offering universal health care is an unthinkable evil?
The sad truth is that things will have to become far, far worse before we can have any hope of them getting better.
My reply to this last part was:
How much worse can it get for many millions already hurting? I would like to think that there will be some measure of anger that will culminate into some mass citizen education and uprising. But, I cannot, for the life of me, understand just how bad it would need to get to overcome the brainwashing. I would have thought we would have met that critical mass already.
All of this takes me back to a current discussion on this post, where we have come to the real nut to cut: When do we hit the beach?
My personal opinion is that there is absolutely no way we could ever get enough people to understand, much less fight against the power-elite that own and control everything in this country, including the military and police forces. I believe that an armed revolt is simply mass suicide.
No, as I wrote in one of my responses, I believe we have a much better chance of unarmed revolution simply by not participating in the game any more. I believe that it would be infinitely easier to convince people of a non-violent revolution than a violent one, when critical mass is met. Sure, it might take even more hardships to get a mass of people to agree and participate, but like I said, I would have already thought we were there. I mean, I am hurting. Almost everyone I know is feeling the pain. How bad must it get before people wake up from their slumber and do what James Corbett suggests (and I have been, too, for quite some time) in his latest blog post:
The Only Way to Win the Game is Not to Play
When we pull back from the geopolitical grand chessboard we find that it is in fact one player, the global financial elite, playing both sides. Whether you root for black or white, the elite will win in the end. In the face of such a false choice, the only real choice is not to choose at all.
Surely we can’t condone the bombing of Libyan civilians, and it makes no sense to side with a brutal communist dictatorship that enforces one child policies with forced abortions and harvests the organs of its prisoners. So we must identify ourselves as not being on either side. Depending where we live, who we work for, and how we spend our money, we may be tied to one side or the other, whether financially or socially, but that does not mean that we must continue to give our allegiance to any of these global power players in their Machiavellian manipulations of the planet.
Although it may not be as fundamentally satisfying to us as human beings, geared as we are to confrontation and battle as a way of resolving our problems, the best thing we can do is in fact to ignore the big players all together, withdraw ourselves from their system, and begin constructing our own self-sufficient communities. Everyday we make a conscious decision of our own free will to shop at their stores, to bank at their banks, and to eat the foods they process in their factories. With changes in lifestyle, we can detach ourselves from all of their levers of control over our lives and at the exact same time starve their war machine of the funds and the support that it needs to function.
As others have pointed out time and again, every community garden, every farmer’s market, every solar panel, every community currency, every neighborhood mutual aid society is a monkey wrench in the plans for the global war and a nail in the coffin of the ambitions of the globalists.
Unhooking ourselves from the system that is oppressing us is not an easy task, nor will it be an overnight one, but it seems that time is running out before the elite manipulate us into another big war. The consequences of a third world war, doubtless a nuclear one, are horrific. The elite are hoping to bring about this conflict in order to create a new, further centralized, truly global system of government from the ashes of the old world order. But they need our support in order to do it.
Let’s not give it to them.
